When I came into this class I thought I knew how to annotate a paper properly. I used to just underline and highlight things and if some was really important I would do both and make a small comment on the side. Now since I have been through the english 110 class here I feel as if I have a better understanding when it comes to annotations and how to annotate papers/readings.  When I annotate now I do much much more. I write down the most important quotes, I circle unknown words or statements I don’t understand and put a little question mark. I also tend to re read papers to have a better understanding of the paper and try to attack it for a second time with annotations. In the Gilroy reading Gilroy explains how “Annotating puts you actively and immediately in a dialogue with an author and the issues and ideas you encounter in a written text.” I fully agree with this statement. It is easy to only read a paper and just skim thought and have things just float out of your head. This doesn’t happen when you really engage the text and annotate. When one makes good annotations it’s hard to forget about the reading you just read. And even if you forget some of the story you could just look at all the little notes and annotations  you made for a refresher instead of re-reading the entire part you forgot. I feel as if this class has made me a stronger reader and annotator.
